Wine heals: Friuli charity wine helps Udine Hospital

Situated on one of the highest hills in the Spessa di Cividale area, the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali, Zorzettig has long been devoted to the culture of the vine. In the face of extraordinary challenges, Zorzettig  is also spreading love and support to the Hospital of Udine by doing what it does best – making wine.

Andrà Tutto Bene

The newly-released, limited edition Andrà Tutto Bene (meaning everything will be alright) is a Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso made from the eponymous native red variety known for its resilience, adapting well in just about any nutrient-poor soil. The winery has produced 720 bottles of red wine made with the grape variety Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, grown predominantly in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy, which has been one of the regions of Italy most affected by the outbreak. The intensive care unit of Ospedale Universitario Santa Maria della Misericordia in Udine continues to fight at the country’s forefront of COVID-19.

Refosco del Peuncolo Rosso is a unique grape where the stalk of the grape reddens once the grapes are fully ripe. The wine is impressive with fruits and hints of dried red cherries, savory herbal medley, essence of marzipan, a fistful of wild flowers, including lavender, and laced with minerality.

“We love our land and our community and we asked ourselves how we could help,” says Annalisa Zorzettig, who runs the family business. This is how we came up with the idea of a limited edition with a good wish aimed at going beyond space and time.”

On the label, Andrà Tutto Bene, is translated into seven additional languages, including English, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, German, Chinese, and Russian, which form a circle around the Italian “Andra Tutto Bene.” The total number of languages is itself a reference to the fact that eight is considered a lucky number in China, where the outbreak first started in December, 2019. The placement of the multi-language sentences aims at representing a hug – a familiar gesture that people are encouraged  to refrain from at the moment.

“In the future, this will be a reminder of a challenging time we were able to overcome and of a moment which has taught us, once more, how precious are little joys and beloved ones”.

Proceeds will be used to purchase the necessary and much needed equipment for the hospital. The bottles are available on an Italian e-commerce site tannico.it for €35 per bottle. or by writing to info@zorzettigvini.it
