Acclaimed wine writer and illustrator Marisa Finetti, creator of Marisa’s Wine Doodles, is excited to unveil her second book, Tiny Tales of Umbria – A Madrevite Story. This innovative book transcends the typical boundaries of wine literature, inviting readers to explore Italy’s “green heart” through an immersive storybook journey, rich with illustration and charm.
Commissioned by Madrevite winery, Tiny Tales of Umbria celebrates the spirit of Umbria with what Marisa calls a “sip trip” through local wines, offering a taste of the landscapes, culture, and traditions that make this region so captivating. Readers are taken on illustrative walks through ancient landscapes, invited to pause at historical milestones, and shown glimpses into the unique culture that characterizes Umbria. The book also provides a journey around Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding wine-growing areas, paired with recipes from top Umbrian restaurants, allowing readers to recreate regional dishes at home.
“It was an honor to work with Madrevite on this project. I adore Umbria and am inspired by the dedication that winemaker/owner Nicola Chiucchiurlotto brings to celebrating the bounty around Lake Trasimeno,” says Finetti.
Madrevite wines are woven throughout the narrative, with Finetti’s tasting notes accompanied by suggested pairings for both food and music, adding layers of sensory experience.
“The book is presented in my light and approachable style, but the illustrations really pushed my boundaries as an artist and wine communicator,” she adds. “Tiny Tales of Umbria introduces an adaptable concept: the “Tiny Tales™” format can be embraced by any winery or wine region, offering a creative way for winemakers to share the essence of their land, their wines, and their people,” says Finetti.
Tiny Tales of Umbria is presented in both English and Italian, allowing readers from around the world to connect with Umbria’s charm and Madrevite’s story in their own language.
This model invites other regions to tell their own stories, with insights from experts highlighting local heritage through a blend of words, imagery, and passion.
“I’m excited to create more of these in the near future!” she says.
The book is printed in Italy by Proto-Typo Group (Grafiche Paciotti + CM Cartotecnica Moderna) and available through Madrevite. Tiny Tales is also distributed and printed by Ingram Spark (USA). Italian translation provided by Tullia Mantella. Editing provided by Studio Cru Communicazione.
